FamousGrey Paris and Cancer@Work launch FIGHTING CANCER.

The first LinkedIn skill which values cancer patients in the working environment.

Friday, April 6, 2018 — What if having cancer was not seen as a negative factor, but as an experience to show and be proud of? A form of ‘badge of honour’ that demonstrates to others the battle you’ve gone through. It is the belief of Cancer@Work who launches « Fighting Cancer », a new skill available on LinkedIn that aims to change the mindset regarding the disease at work.

The employee of the year is not always the one you think
People who suffer from cancer not only have to fight against the disease, but are also tasked with having to explain the blank period on their resume. For an employee, cancer is often synonymous with isolation and a large gap in their professional career.

In companies, cancer still remains a taboo, as it’s still associated with a loss of professional ability. However, men and women who face this illness have developed exceptional qualities of courage, strength and tenacity; skills that are very important in the business world.

Moreover, the job retention of the diagnosed willing to work is a winning equation, on both social and economic point of view for the employee, the employer and for the whole society.

Change the life experience of cancer patient into a professional asset
In order to change the way people think about those who’ve been diagnosed with cancer, Cancer@Work has created an audacious and engaging device with the help of agency FamousGrey Paris.

The organisation turned towards LinkedIn – the reference network for job searches and recruiters – to created the new « Fighting Cancer » skill; a skill that everyone who fought the disease will be able to add to their profile to show and value their experience.

An optimist campaign to raise awareness
To launch this LinkedIn skill, Cancer@Work made a film, and shared it on LinkedIn and across other social networks from April, 9th 2018. It will hero the patients and highlight the skills they’ve acquired while battling the disease. It will also feature testimonials from doctors and recruiters. A positive, heart-warming film, that shares a hopeful and motivational message for everyone going through this ordeal. To boost the campaign, the organisation has also created a « Fighting Cancer » badge. It was sent to opinion leaders and influencers, inviting them to wear it, to talk about it and to post a picture on the social networks as a sign of their support.

Each day in France, 1.000 people learn that they have cancer; 400 of them have a job. The diagnosis of cancer multiplies their chances of loosing their jobs by three. 70 % of those who are unemployed when they learn about their diagnosis don't find a job after 2 years.

About Cancer@Work :
Cancer @ Work is a recognised association of general interest, founded in 2012 by Anne-Sophie Tuszynski and chaired by Philippe Salle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Foncia Group. Cancer @ Work is the first corporate club dedicated to the disease of cancer and the work environment.

It is a platform for exchange and the sharing of the integration of the disease in companies, incubator of projects of economic and social innovation. Cancer @ Work, through its actions and members, work daily to change society and businesses’ mind-set on the patients, and thus allow everyone – from those who are sick, to operational managers, colleagues, human resources, health at work and leaders – to live a better working life while dealing with cancer and chronic diseases. Cancer @ Work is the origin of an economic study «Reconciling illness and work - Making the will of some, an opportunity for all» which resulted in 5 recommendations given to the policitians in September 2017. In 2018, this then helped the organisation give everyone a voice and launch a citizens’ debate that will run from February 1st to May 7th. It will be focused on the collective intelligence platform, www.maladie-et-travail.com, which will then lead to an operational action plan. Finally, Cancer@Work will also help people who have been removed from the job by organising three ‘job dating’ sessions each year (in Paris and surrounding areas). The objective is to give candidates confidence, help them to achieve their professional goals and give them valuable HRD advice..
